Part 5: Friendship, Attraction, and Being Bisexual
Navigating your 20s while questioning your sexuality, and how to maintain healthy boundaries.
Friendship, Attraction, and Being Bisexual
You mentioned that you think you may like both men and women, but you aren’t entirely sure.
First and foremost: That is completely okay.
Navigating bisexuality in your 20s in India is a deeply personal journey. You do NOT need to immediately define yourself perfectly. Attraction can take time to understand, and your 20s are exactly the right time to explore that.
Important Advice for Your Journey
Do not build your entire identity around the confusion.
Instead:
- Explore slowly: Take your time to figure out what and who you like.
- Stay safe: Prioritize your emotional and physical safety above all else.
- Avoid rushing emotionally: Don’t jump into intense relationships just to prove something to yourself.
- Avoid manipulative dynamics: Don’t use people as experiments, and don’t let others use you.
- Avoid people who shame you: Surround yourself with people who accept you for exactly who you are.
In Indian Tech Hubs
In cities like Bhubaneswar and other major tech hubs, you’ll find that:
- More people are bisexual than openly admit it.
- Many young professionals are also questioning.
- Many are discreet due to familial or societal expectations.
Be careful about privacy, maintain clear workplace boundaries (office romances can get very complicated very fast), and avoid emotional dependency.
The Golden Rule
Friendship first. Attraction second.
Whether you are interacting with men or women, if you build a foundation of genuine friendship first, it leads to much healthier, longer-lasting relationships and saves you from a lot of unnecessary heartbreak.
