This varies by state, but in general:

  • OPD Consultation: Free or ₹2-10 in most states.
  • Emergency Care: Free everywhere (by law, no hospital can refuse emergency treatment).
  • Medicines: Free in states with drug distribution schemes (Odisha Niramaya, Tamil Nadu MRF, Rajasthan Free Medicine Scheme).
  • Diagnostics: Free in states with diagnostic schemes (Odisha NIDAN, Rajasthan Free Diagnostic Scheme).
  • Surgery: Free at most government medical colleges and district hospitals.
  • Inpatient care: Free at general wards.
