5. Honest Review

Strengths:

  • World-class faculty with doctors trained at AIIMS Delhi, PGI Chandigarh, and international institutions.
  • Modern infrastructure with state-of-the-art equipment (256-slice CT, 3T MRI, PET-CT, Linear Accelerator for cancer).
  • Emergency department is excellent and handles critical trauma cases 24/7.
  • Research-driven approach ensures that treatment protocols are up-to-date with global standards.

Weaknesses:

  • Overcrowding: Patients come from Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal. OPD can have 200-300 patients per department daily.
  • Long waiting times: Getting a surgery date can take weeks to months for non-emergency cases.
  • Communication: Some patients report that junior residents can be brusque due to workload pressure.
  • Pharmacy stock: The AIIMS pharmacy sometimes runs out of specific medicines, forcing patients to buy from outside.

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ (4/5)

Best for: Complex surgeries, cancer treatment, cardiac care, neurosurgery. Not ideal for: Routine OPD (too crowded) or simple ailments (use a state hospital instead).

6. Can Non-Odisha Residents Use AIIMS?

YES — 100%. AIIMS is a Central Government institution under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. It is open to all Indian citizens regardless of which state you are from.

If you are a TCS employee who moved from Ghaziabad, Delhi, or any other state:

  • OPD: ₹10 registration. No domicile requirement.
  • Emergency: Completely free. No questions asked.
  • Investigations: Available at subsidized rates.
  • Surgery/Admission: Available at subsidized rates.
  • Ayushman Bharat (PM-JAY): If your family is in the SECC 2011 database, you can use your Ayushman card here.
  • TCS Insurance: AIIMS also processes insurance claims from major TPAs. Check with the billing counter.

AIIMS is your safest option as a non-Odisha resident because state-level schemes like BSKY, Niramaya, and NIDAN do not apply to you.
