The “Gentle Hydroquinone”

Alpha Arbutin is a naturally occurring derivative of Hydroquinone, found in the Bearberry plant.

How it Works

It is a “slow-release” version of Hydroquinone. It inhibits tyrosinase activity by mimicking the enzyme’s substrate. Because it releases its active molecule slowly, it doesn’t have the toxicity of raw Hydroquinone. Licorice root contains a specific molecule called Glabridin.

How it Works

Glabridin is a potent tyrosinase inhibitor. What makes it unique is its anti-inflammatory properties. For Indian skin, which is prone to redness and heat-induced irritation, Licorice root is a miracle. it brightens while calming the skin down. It is often the primary ingredient in high-end “Ubtan” formulations.
