100 Best Teen Dramas Part 4: Supernatural High
There is something about being a teenager that makes “becoming a monster” the perfect metaphor. The changes in your body, the feeling of being an outsider, and the intensity of first love are all amplified when you add fangs, fur, or magic. Here are 10 of the best supernatural teen dramas.
31. The Vampire Diaries (2009–2017)
The quintessential supernatural teen drama. Elena Gilbert is caught in a love triangle between two vampire brothers, Stefan and Damon Salvatore, in the mysterious town of Mystic Falls.
- Why it’s a must-watch: It has incredible pacing, heartbreaking twists, and some of the best character chemistry on television.
- Best Character: Damon Salvatore (The ultimate “bad boy” redemption arc).
32. Teen Wolf (2011–2017)
MTV’s dark reimagining of the 80s movie. Scott McCall is an unpopular teen who is bitten by a werewolf, thrusting him into a world of hunters, banshees, and ancient evils.
- Why it’s a must-watch: It balances humor and horror perfectly. The relationship between Scott and his best friend Stiles is the heart of the show.
- Best Character: Stiles Stilinski (The sarcastic human heart of the pack).
33. The Originals (2013–2018)
A spin-off of The Vampire Diaries focused on the first vampires ever created (the Mikaelsons) as they fight for control of New Orleans.
- Why it’s a must-watch: It’s darker and more focused on family loyalty and ancient politics. It’s “The Godfather” with vampires.
- Best Character: Klaus Mikaelson.
34. Legacies (2018–2022)
The third show in the TVD universe, set at a school for supernatural children (The Salvatore Boarding School). It follows Hope Mikaelson (the daughter of Klaus).
- Why it’s a must-watch: It has a “Monster of the Week” format that is reminiscent of Buffy.
- Best Character: Lizzie Saltzman.
35. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018–2020)
A dark, occult-focused reboot of the Archie Comics character. It’s stylish, gothic, and much more “Satanic” than the 90s sitcom.
- Why it’s a must-watch: The aesthetics are breathtaking, and it tackles themes of female empowerment and religious rebellion.
- Best Character: Ambrose Spellman.
36. Fate: The Winx Saga (2021–2022)
A live-action, gritty reimagining of the Winx Club animated series. It follows fairies at a boarding school in the Otherworld.
- Why it’s a must-watch: It’s a darker take on magical girls with high production value and intense combat.
- Best Character: Beatrix.
37. Motherland: Fort Salem (2020–2022)
Set in an alternate America where witches ended their persecution by cutting a deal with the government to become the military’s primary fighting force.
- Why it’s a must-watch: The world-building is incredibly unique. It uses “sound” as a weapon and explores a matriarchal society.
- Best Character: Raelle Collar.
38. Shadowhunters (2016–2019)
Based on The Mortal Instruments books, it follows Clary Fray as she discovers she is a Shadowhunter—a human born with angel blood who hunts demons.
- Why it’s a must-watch: It has a massive, passionate fanbase and features one of the most beloved LGBTQ+ couples in TV history (Magnus and Alec).
- Best Character: Magnus Bane.
39. First Kill (2022)
A modern “Romeo and Juliet” where a teenage vampire and a teenage monster hunter fall in love, but both are tasked with their first “kill” to prove themselves to their families.
- Why it’s a must-watch: It’s a fun, campy, and diverse take on vampire romance.
- Best Character: Calliope Burns.
40. The Secret Circle (2011–2012)
A group of teenagers in a small town discover they are part of a secret coven of witches and that their parents died in a mysterious “accident” years ago.
- Why it’s a must-watch: It was cancelled too soon! It had a great atmospheric mystery and strong performances.
- Best Character: Faye Chamberlain.
